In-Depth Information
The rest of the peninsula is pastoral in the middle and edged with scenic cliffs
near the tip. Ireland's only cable car connects the headland with mellow Dursey Is-
land. Cattle can be transported on it (one at a time). The floor is slatted so water
can be sloshed over the boards to wash out the dung. Castletownbere (on the south
coast) is a fishing port with plenty of pubs for lunch. Allihies and Eyeries (on the
north coast) are two of the most colorfully painted towns in Ireland, splattered with
pastels and vivid hues.
