the town's deep harbor attracts 60 cruise ships per year (with their large packs of eager

Orientation to Cobh
Cobh sits on a large island in Cork harbor. The island is connected to the mainland by a
short bridge (on the north shore) or a handy drive-on ferry (on the west shore). The town's
inviting waterfront is colorful yet salty, with a playful promenade. The butcher's advert-
isement reads, “Always pleased to meet you and always with meat to please you.” Stroll

ment Square and the modest Titanic memorial nearby on Pearse Square.
A hike up the hill to the towering Neo-Gothic St. Colman's Cathedral rewards you with
a fine view of the port. To get to the cathedral, walk behind the Lusitania memorial, go un-
der the stone arch, and strut up steep Westview Street, passing the photogenic row of col-
orful houses on your right (nicknamed the “deck of cards” by locals). After panting your
way to the top, turn right—you can't miss the cathedral steeple.
