In-Depth Information
Not far from urban Dublin, the stony skeletons of evocative ruins sprout from the lush
Irish countryside. The story of Irish history is told by ancient burial mounds, early Chris-
tian monastic settlements, huge Norman castles, and pampered estate gardens. In gentler
inland terrain, the Irish love of equestrian sport is nurtured in grassy pastures ruled by
spirited thoroughbreds. These sights are separated into three regions: north of Dublin (the
Valley of the Boyne, including Brú na Bóinne and the town of Trim), south of Dublin
(Powerscourt Gardens, Glendalough, and the Wicklow Mountains), and west of Dublin
(the Irish National Stud).
