Package Vacations
Many travelers come here on an unescorted package deal that includes
transportation and accommodations. Often, these bundled arrangements
cost less than separately booked hotel and airfare.
Start with the airlines. They frequently throw in multi-night hotel
arrangements at a great price when you book your flight. Or go the other
way and check with the hotel of your choice for a package deal that
includes airfare.
Tour-scan computerizes all the published package trips to the Caribbean
according to season, then selects the best values for each island. Travelers
may search for their vacation by destination, cost, hotel rating, or pre-
ferred activity. This can save you a lot of time, but if you want to search for
yourself, you may find unpublished packages at even better rates. Search

Yachting
Insurers often require boat owners to head south, below lati-
tude 12
N, when hurricane season arrives in order to protect
their vessels. Aruba is at 12
°
30 minutes N. Bonaire and
Curaçao are even farther south. But many captains come to
the ABCs simply because they offer a terrific boating experi-
ence. They are close to the Venezuelan coast, offer safe harbors, and the
friendly locals welcome visiting yachts and their crews.
Sailing between the islands is often difficult because of the strong trade
winds and ocean currents, and most crews avoid the 70-mile trip between
Aruba and Curaçao. However, the 35-mile journey downwind from
Bonaire to Curaçao takes an average of six hours, and sailors enjoy the
ride. Visitors who do not own a boat can take advantage of the many day
sails and party cruises offered on each island.
