of $640 per bag checked luggage is lost. Unchecked luggage is covered for a
total of $400 per passenger. Additional coverage may be purchased in
advance from the airline for more valuable articles. Most travelers do not
need more protection than this, but if you do, contact your current insurer
about buying a rider for your existing policy.

Trip-Cancellation Insurance
This is the one type of insurance that can be valuable for many travelers. If
you pay for all or portions of your trip in advance, then must cancel
because of illness or a death in the family, the policy will reimburse you for
most or all of the costs. Some policies also cover cancellation in the event of
illness, injury, or the death of your travel companion. Most policies exclude
trip cancellation in the event of war or other hostilities, including terror-
ism and natural disasters. Some policies also exclude travel to specific des-
tinations that are prone to political unrest.
Many comprehensive travel insurance policies now include coverage if
your tour operator defaults, but, if you buy a policy directly from your tour
provider, you will not be covered for default of that provider. Some policies
only cover tour operator default if the operator files for bankruptcy.

Non-Refundable Ticket Insurance
If you buy a non-refundable airline ticket through a travel agent that uses
Worldspan Network, you can purchase insurance that will reimburse the
cost if you are not able to use the ticket. You are covered whether you sim-
ply do not want to reschedule the trip and pay the $100 change fee, or don't
want to take the trip at all.
