If you like the locally made decorations at this garden restaurant with the
colorful plaid tablecloths, take them home. Paintings and crafts are for
sale, and you can browse as you wait for your meal to arrive. Surprisingly,
the menu holds much more than beef. In fact, vegetarians can eat quite
well here, but the fresh fish and chicken dishes are more popular. Try the
Caribbean specialty, cabrito stoba (goat stew), or one of the curry choices.
Of course, steaks are especially good.

Salads are huge, enough to call a meal, and you may want to consider the
Caesar- , Greek- , or Gyro-style for dinner so that you can also manage one
of the terrific chef-created desserts. In addition to good seafood, there are
fabulous appetizers, and carefully prepared pasta, oriental chicken, pork
ribs, and beef tenderloin. Located in the middle of town, the open-air seat-
ing allows nice views of the bay.

You can't miss Karel's. It's built out on a pier in downtown Kralendijk, and
usually a crowd is streaming in and out of its doors. Most likely, you'll hear
the music first, especially if you're in town on a weekend, when a local
band will be playing. The big screen TV shows sporting events, the drinks
are great, and free snacks are served during happy hour from 5:30 until
7 pm. It isn't unusual for the crowd to stay and dance well into the night.
At the end of the pier, Karel's Ice Cream Parlor serves coffee drinks and
ice cream treats. Stop in after dinner for dessert, or drop by during the day
for cooling refreshments.
