In-Depth Information
Just a 15-minute walk
from Kralendijk, this
recently renovated
resort is actually a vil-
lage with its own beach,
marina, dive shop,
health club, tennis
courts and restaurants.
Standard rooms are
small, but nicely deco-
rated in tile and teak,
have both ceiling fans
and air-conditioning,
and open into a well-
equipped bathroom with
spa-quality amenities. You'll be well accommodated, even in these basic
rooms. But upgrade to a suite and you get much more space, plus a beach-
front location, private patio and a mini-bar with a small refrigerator. The
landscaped grounds wrap around a private beach (with white sand, lounge
chairs and hammocks) and a 60-slip full-service marina. Vespucci Medi-
terranean Restaurant serves dinner overlooking the marina, and La
Balandra Bar and Grill offers open-air breakfast, lunch and dinner with
ocean views.

Plaza has made this 12-acre
retreat one of the prettiest
spot on the island by adding
thousands of plants and
trees, and American divers
have voted it one of the top 10
dive resorts in the world. The
luxurious suites and apart-
ments are clustered in nine
two-story buildings scat-
tered around a marina next
to a sandy beach. Each unit has a mini- or full-size kitchen, oversized bath-
rooms, and a balcony or patio. On-site facilities include a full-service dive
center (See Toucan Diving , page 252), three restaurants, a large freshwa-
ter swimming pool, a casino, four lighted tennis courts, a fitness center,
and a watersports facility. Since the Plaza is beginning to show its age,
don't expect five-star quality. However, it is still a fine resort, with excel-
lent diving and a caring staff.
