Biking
Flat terrain and deserted back roads make ideal conditions
for bike enthusiasts. Traffic is too heavy in the tourist areas
and on the main road along the western coast, and wind can
be a deterrent for some. However, the paved roads and
smoother dirt paths along the northern coast are scenic and
enjoyable when the wind is calm. Basic bikes rent for about $15 per day.

Hiking
Arikok National Park has already laid out 20 miles of
trails and more are planned. Some of the rock-bordered dirt
paths lead to formal presentations and learning centers; oth-
ers branch out to the isolated undeveloped areas along the
park's north and south boundaries. Rangers can provide
maps and information at the Visitor's Center east of Santa Cruz.
DIRECTIONS: Coming from the beach resorts to-
ward Santa Cruz on Highway 4A/B, turn left at a
sign marked Parke Nacional Arikok, just before you
reach the center of town. When the paved road ends,
look for another sign and the park on the left.
Parking is adjacent to the Visitor's Center.
Climbing
If you are an experienced rock climber and want a different
type of Caribbean experience, hook up with the Club Active
Aruba . Its members have cleaned and set up a climbing area
at Grapefield , on the eastern point of the island, near Seroe
Colorado. This section of the island was once covered in
seagrape trees, but they have been destroyed by refinery waste products
that were dumped here in the past. Three climbing enthusiasts visiting
from the Netherlands and members of the local climbing club have cleared
