ACCOMMODATION
Anusone Down a small side street just across from the bus station 030 513 0777. The
rooms here are in concrete bungalows, set around a pleasant family compound off the main
road. Though quite dark and a little worn around the edges, it's not a bad c hoice if you're
making an early start in the morning. Hot water costs 20,000K extra. 50,000K
Charming Lao Hotel Highway 2, just off the main road through town 081 212881,
charminglaohotel.com . Opened in 2012, Oudomxai's plushest spot overlooks an attractive
park at the top end of the town. Big, carpeted rooms come with comfy mattresses, wood fur-
niture and flatscreen tellies; if they're a little functional for the price, stone-floored bathrooms
add a bit of interest. Th ere's also a spa, coffee shop and pleasant restaurant, serving mainly
Lao food (7-10pm). $50
Litthavixay Main road, 500m north of the bus station 081 212175, lit-
thavixay@yahoo.com . Arguably the best deal in town, with bright, very clean ro oms, all with
TV and en suite. Internet access is available in the large reception area. 80,000K
Villa Keosumsack Opposite Litthavixay Guesthouse, main road 081 312170, seum-
sack@hotmail.com . The spacious rooms in this rather ornate wooden building, set a little
back off the main drag, have a touch of class about them, with colourful fabric bed runners
and timber floors. An open terr ace at the front is a nice vantage-point from which to survey
the street's goings-on. 160,000K
Vivanh Just south of the bridge, 900m north of the bus station 081 212219. A really sweet
little guesthouse offering big, sparkling rooms with TV and brightly coloured bedspreads; the
female staff are very welcoming and friendly. 60,000K
Xaysana Left off the main road, 400m north of the bus station 020 251 5737. An attractive,
scrupulously well-maintained hotel on a quiet street behind Wat Phu That. The big, bright
rooms, up a ra ther grand wooden staircase, have high ceilings and pretty curtains. Excellent
value. 80,000K
EATING AND DRINKING
There are lots of places to eat on the main road, including a number of Chinese restaurants
and the usual fõe places around the bus station. For breakfast , the bus station is the best op-
tion, with women selling baguettes, khào lãm and bags of fruit.
Dansavanh Next to the tourist office 081 212696. The riverside terrace of this weird,
mausoleum-like Chinese hotel - formerly the town's poshest - is the most picturesque place
for a Beerlao (though that's not saying much). Daily 3-11pm.
