In-Depth Information
• Soft skills, such as inter- and intrapersonal skills, will be extremely helpful.
An introduction to all of these skills can be acquired either in a university academic pro-
gram or targeted training classes.
SAP Basis Training Curriculum
SAP Education (www.sap.com/index.epx#/training-and-education/index.epx) offers training
classes with a structured curriculum. Generally, the training courses are fairly expensive,
and ideally you should get your employer to pay for your training courses. For new gradu-
ates, there are less expensive ways to get hands-on experience, which will be discussed in
later sections of this chapter. The following table will provide all the needed information for
training curriculums. The same links have scheduling and cost information as well.
SAP Basis Apprenticeship
One of the most effective ways to learn SAP Basis/NetWeaver skills is to join an organiza-
tion as an entry-level Basis administrator and then do an apprenticeship and job shadowing,
working closely with senior SAP Basis administrators. SAP Basis concepts can be picked
up by going through a training class or sometimes just by reading help documentation.
However, to understand the practice of Basis in real-life situations it is best to be an appren-
tice.
SAP SDN
One of the free SAP Basis/NetWeaver learning opportunities is studying the vast amount of
community-generated content and SAP documentation in the SAP SDN (SAP Developer
Network) website. The website can be accessed at www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/index. This is
one of the best free SAP knowledge areas to improve your Basis skills. There are countless
blogs, technical articles, how-to guides, and e-learning material hosted by the site.
