Import Procedure If the Target System Is Already Installed
If the target system is already installed, then the process flow for the import steps will be as
follows.
1.UsetheOracleofflinebackupcopymethodtocompletethehomogeneoussystemcopy.
2.Deleteoroverwritethetargetsystemdatafilesandlogfileswiththesourcesystemdata-
files and logfiles, either manually or by using the BRTOOLS restore and recovery op-
tion.
3. Complete the database copy by starting the target database using the generated control
file and copied source database files.
4. In case of Java-based systems, instead of performing a homogeneous system copy, ex-
port and import the content.

Import Procedure If the Target System Is New
If the target system is not yet installed, then the process flow for the import steps will be as
follows. This procedure applies to both ABAP and Java systems.
1. Install the target system database software.
2. Install the target system SAP software using the SAPinst tool but under the homogen-
eous system copy path.
3. Choose the homogeneous system copy option during the SAPinst tool execution.
4.SAPinststopsandrequeststocopysourcedatabasedatafilestothetargetsystemduring
the course of the homogeneous system copy.
5. Copy the datafiles manually from the source to the target, and continue the homogen-
eous system copy.
6. Perform any manual post-homogeneous system copy steps. (See the section on com-
mon post-copy steps in Chapter 25 . )
