Integrated GUI for Both ABAP and Java
Starting with the NetWeaver 7.1 release SAP is providing a new tool called the Upgrade
GUI to perform upgrades. In older releases, upgrades used SAPUp for ABAP stack up-
grades and SAPJup for Java stack upgrades. In a dual-stack upgrade the Basis administrator
would have to use the two tools separately, and SAPUp and SAPJup would wait for each
other at the three synchronization points during the upgrade. This not only made it difficult
for the Basis administrator to plan and execute a dual-stack upgrade but was also introdu-
cing a number of potential errors during the upgrade. With the new Upgrade GUI tool, dual-
stack upgrades are “integrated” and a Basis administrator no longer has to execute two up-
grade programs in parallel. The integrated Upgrade GUI tool will gather parameters and
other information for both ABAP and Java stacks, and will perform the upgrade following
the eight roadmap steps in a single interface. The Upgrade GUI tool will show three tabs for
dual-stack upgrades.
