• Download upgrade OSS Notes (Central Upgrade Note 1293744, Application-specific
Upgrade Note 1292069, and Database-specific Upgrade Note 819655).
• Get the upgrade keyword from OSS Note 1292069.
• Download the upgrade master DVD and needed media as per the upgrade guide for
your operating system and the database.
• Download the JCE Policy ZIP file as per OSS Note 1240081.
The main tool to execute the SAP upgrades is the Upgrade GUI. The tool is called from
the upgrade master DVD downloaded from the SAP Service Marketplace.
Start the Upgrade GUI for the First Time
The following procedure can be used to start the Upgrade GUI for the first time.
1. Mount the upgrade master DVD.
2. Log in as <sid>adm user account at the operating system level.
3. Change to directory <path to upgrade master dvd>/upgrade master dvd, and execute
the following command:
4. Next open an Internet Explorer (or any standard browser) window, enter the URL ht-
tp://<hostname>:4239,andclickStartUpgradeFront-end(SDTGui).Thiswillstartthe
Upgrade GUI.
Restarting the Upgrade GUI
Upgrade GUI can be restarted by executing the startup script from the upgrade directory
located at /usr/sap/<sid>/upg/STARTUP.
Upgrade Roadmap Steps
SAP has simplified the upgrade user interface and has divided the processes into several
roadmap steps. The following illustration shows the eight roadmap steps the upgrade pro-
cess executes.
