Preconfiguration Mode Choices During Upgrades
Upgrade Software Logistics
The choice of upgrade software logistics primarily depends on the availability of additional
system resources and the production support and downtime needs of a given business. For
businesses where minimal production support is needed during the upgrade process in the
standard three-System-Landscape of development, test, and production systems, the upgrade
can follow the same promote-to-production path of Development | Test | Production.
However, for the majority of businesses, production support would still be needed while an
upgrade is executed. The most commonly used option in this scenario is the five-System-
Landscape shown in
Figure 25-1
.
