SAP Schema ID and Password Control
In SAP systems, the work process connection to the underlying Oracle Database and the
schema ID login mechanism is a two-step process. This method is used to protect the pass-
word of the SAP<SCHEMA-ID> in an encrypted form and retrieve it from the SAPUSER
table while the work process is started. The two-step schema ID and password control
mechanism is explained here for a hypothetical SAP system with DV1 as the SID and
SAPBIW as the schema name.
1. The SAP work process logs in as OPS$-user account and retrieves the
SAP<SCHEMA-ID> password from the SAPUSER table and disconnects.
2. The SAP work process now uses the retrieved password and logs in with the
SAP<SCHEMA-ID>.
