The tools and techniques covered in this chapter can be used to analyze the reported
problem and categorize it into one of the problem clusters. The quicker a system adminis-
trator develops the skills to categorize the issue to a particular problem area, the faster he
will be able to resolve the issue. Once the issue is categorized into a problem cluster, the
same technique can be used in the identified problem area to further narrow down the prob-
lem.
Troubleshooting Techniques
The following techniques will help the SAP Basis administrator to investigate the reported
problem in a structured manner. Use these techniques along with the problem clustering ap-
proach to troubleshoot a problem.
Questioning Techniques
Asking the right question(s) is extremely important, and is a very effective tool to quickly
understand the nature and origin of the reported problem. Some of the questions you can ask
while investigating the problem are as follows:
