F IGURE 15-2 Initial screen of the configuration tool
When a Java cluster is configured and administered, a distinction is made between global
and local configuration. In the previous figure, you will notice that the cluster data includes
global sections (Global Dispatcher Configuration and Global Server Configuration) as well
as instance-specific cluster element local configuration sections. In general, global configur-
ation changes are effective for all the cluster elements when there is no explicit local para-
meter configuration and local configuration changes are effective for that particular cluster
element only and override the global setting. The parameter evaluation sequence is more
clearly defined in the next sections.
Global Parameter Configuration
Global configuration parameters fall into two categories. The first is the default parameter,
and the second category is the custom value maintained by the customer. Custom values
override the default values. Figure 15-3 shows the global properties view. Custom values
can be set by clicking the parameter, entering a new parameter in the Value field, and click-
ing the Set button. The changes can be applied by selecting File | Apply or by clicking the
Apply Changes icon (save icon). This will prompt the administrator to restart the cluster for
the changes to become effective.
