CHAPTER 15
SAP Processes in Java Stack
In this chapter we will study the different SAP processes in the Java stack and the tools used
to configure and administer the SAP NW AS Java. SAP configuration management primarily
involves making parameter changes and administering the SAP Java cluster. SAP administra-
tion tools also support changes to the Java memory parameters, the starting and stopping of
SAP cluster elements, and the starting and shutting down of the managers and services of the
Java cluster elements. Additional administration activities include changes to the port num-
bers and implementation of secure protocols, such as HTTPS for secure communication.
The SAP Java cluster consists of one or more instances of SAP AS Java, a central services
instance consisting of message and enqueue services, and the database. The SAP AS Java in-
stance consists of at least a Java dispatcher and one or more server processes. Details of the
SAP Java cluster and NW AS Java architecture and installation have been covered in previ-
ous chapters.
Java Administration and Configuration Tools
SAP provides three major tools for configuring and administering the SAP NW AS Java: the
configuration tool (config tool), Visual Administrator, and NetWeaver Administrator tool
(NWA). Table 15-1 provides a comparison of the three tools along with the prerequisites and
intended purpose of each.
