Dialog Work Processes
Dialog work processes will help in executing dialog programs. Dialog work processing is
used for all interactive processing in the system. The number of dialog work processes is
configured by modifying the rdisp/wp_no_dia profile parameter in the instance profile.
Transaction code SM51 gives a list of all the application servers (Instances) for a SAP sys-
tem. You can double-click the application server to get an overview of its particular work
processes. Transaction code SM50 executed in a given application server provides an over-
view of all configured work processes for an instance. In Figure 14-4 the dialog work pro-
cesses are seen as type DIA and are marked in a box.

F IGURE 14-4 SAP work process overview (dialog work processes are highlighted)
In instances where there are multiple application servers, we can get an overview of
global work processes by using transaction code SM66. This transaction code can be used to
check the status of the work processes from different application servers of a single SAP
system that are active at a given point of time. This transaction is particularly useful to
check the execution of a online transaction or a background job in real time.
To summarize, the following three transactions help monitor and track SAP work pro-
cesses:
• SM51 transaction lists all the application servers that belong to one SAP system.
