Turn Off Oracle Archiving
If Oracle archiving is turned on, it will generate a lot of archive logs and can quickly fill up
the archive directory and cause the client copy to stall. In order to avoid this scenario, it is
recommended to turn off archiving for the duration of the client copy process.
Check Database Space
Check database space and, if needed, add sufficient space before the start of the client copy
process so that a new client can be created successfully.
User Activity
Users should not be logged on to the source and target clients during a client copy run.
Additional Component Installs
Import all support packages, language installs, and add-ons before starting the client copy in
the development system for the project team.
Client Copy Schedule
The client copy should be scheduled after regular working hours or over a weekend.
Test Run
Perform a test run for the client copy procedure to identify any potential problems up front.
Parallel Processing
Use parallel processing to reduce the runtime of the client copy.
Restart Option
After fixing a canceled client copy/refresh process, use the restart option.
Detailed Client Copy Procedure
The following provides a detailed procedure for performing a complete end-to-end client
copy in a SAP system. In this example we will create a new client 300 as a copy of client
000. The first step in the client copy process is to log in to client 000 and enter transaction
code SCC4; you will notice the following screen listing existing clients.
