Software Logistics in Java Systems
Similar to ABAP systems, SAP provides a complete solution for developing and transport-
ing Java-based applications. Some of the examples of SAP applications that are either com-
pletely Java-based or dual-stack are SAP NetWeaver Portal, SAP Process Integration, and
SAP Development Infrastructure. SAP recommends four-System-Landscapes for the devel-
opment of Java-based applications.
Four-System-Landscape for Java Applications
Unlike the SAP ABAP three-System-Landscape, in Java systems, the code is developed as a
software component in the Java development system (e.g., .jar files) and it has dependen-
cies, so a separate consolidation system is needed to consolidate and assemble the code.
Once the code is assembled, it is actually ready to be moved to the test system for integra-
tion testing and finally delivered to the production system for final deployment. Figure 9-5
shows the four-System-Landscape of SAP Java NetWeaver Development Infrastructure
(NWDI).
