In-Depth Information
changes. The training system will have several clients to support the on-going training
classes. Additional training clients are set up using a copy process called a client copy. More
details on the different client copy and transport processes will be discussed in subsequent
chapters.
As shown in Figure 9-3 , the transport path of the development object begins in Develop-
ment System Client 210, and then it will be moved to Quality Assurance Configuration
Gold Client 300 and to 310 for integration testing. Once the testing is successful the objects
are imported to the training and production systems after securing the proper approvals from
data owners. Similarly, the configuration changes originate from Client 200 of the develop-
ment system and are imported to Client 300 of the quality assurance system. Once the integ-
ration testing is completed successfully, the objects are imported to the training and produc-
tion systems after securing proper approvals from the data owners. In order to facilitate unit
testing before releasing the configuration transports, Transaction Code SCC1 can be used to
copy configuration changes to unit-testing Development Client 220 without releasing the
transport request.
Change Requests and Transport Management
In the development system, the client settings are recorded automatically for the configura-
tion and development clients. This results in SAP changes being saved in the development
system in the form of change requests. A change request is a data package created by the
system when changes are performed in the development system. Several tasks can be as-
signed to one change request number. All tasks should be released before releasing the
change request. Releasing (exporting) the change request will create a data file and control
file at the operating system level, resulting in transports. Each change request is assigned a
unique number starting with the three-character SID of the development system. For ex-
ample, if the SID is DV1, then the transport number will start with DV1K appended to a
system and assigned number range starting with 9. In Figure 9-4 the transport number
change request in a development system is DV1K922692. There is one task identified by the
number DV1K922693 below this change request number. Usually, the team members save
their respective work in the tasks and release the tasks as their work is completed. A team
lead will verify the work of the team members and then will release the change request,
therefore releasing the change request in the form of transports. All changes in the SAP sys-
tem originate as transports in the development system and are imported to the target systems
using SAP Transport Management System. More details on the SAP Transport Management
System will be studied in subsequent chapters.
