F IGURE 7-2 SAPLogon screen with one back-end entry
Most of the ABAP post-installation activities are done from the SAPGUI, and some
activities, such as kernel upgrade, are done at the operating system level. When logging on
to the system for the first time, SAPGUI will ask for a client number, user ID, and a pass-
word. A client in the SAP system is defined as a self-contained legal entity and data envir-
onment with its own set of master data and tables. Since the concept of a client and its ad-
ministration activities are so important, Chapter 10 is devoted to this topic. SAP delivers de-
fault user accounts and clients with the standard SAP ABAP installation. The password for
the default accounts was chosen during the time of the installation in the master password
selection screen. Table 7-1 lists the SAP standard delivered clients and SAP standard user
accounts.
