another layer of SiO 2 is done. The high refractive index core of SiO 2 is yielded in
this process on top of Si and over the cladding there is un-doped SiO 2 (Fig. 4.8 ).
4.8 Silicon in Photonics
The use of silicon in industry has long been established for infrared optics, such as
simple lenses, windows, and long-wave detection. Presently, silicon is the material
of variety for visible detection, for the most part as the imaging element in digital
cameras.
