In-Depth Information
Schools
At the time of writing there were no international school options in Jeonju, though plans for
new institutions are said to be in the offing.
Shopping
Jeonju has a branch of large retailer E-mart and a Lotte Department Store. Most boutiques
and specialty shops are located in the city center near the historic Gaeksa Gate, and there are
also a few agricultural markets in the area with a wide variety of fresh produce and herbs.
The hanok village is an excellent place to hunt down ceramics, paper art, teas, and crafts.
Transport
There has been talk of a light-rail network, but for now public transit in Jeonju consists of
a bus system that is limited and rather confusing for non-Korean speakers. Given the city's
compact size, taxis are usually a less stressful and only slightly more expensive option, and
many expatriates eventually prefer to drive themselves around. Jeonju is also linked to the
high-speed KTX rail network, which puts the rest of the country within easy reach.
