800,000 won per month after a 5-10 million won deposit. Apartment prices in the area start
at around 200 million won.
The Haeundae district, bordering the beach of the same name, is a fairly recent creation
that has quickly become a favorite of expatriates and upwardly mobile locals. While it's
some distance from the traditional city center, it's connected to other parts of town via the
subway and has so many amenities of its own that venturing outside the area is never a
necessity. In addition to beach access, Haeundae offers international schools, an eye-pop-
ping range of restaurants and bars, and Busan's newest and flashiest retail spaces, including
the colossal Centum City complex, dubbed the largest department store in the world. The
towering new condominiums here, with their sweeping sea views, are widely seen as the
city's best, and they bear impossibly posh names like Trump or Zenith. Despite that, they're
not outrageously priced, at least compared to similar developments in Seoul. New two- to
three-bedroom units of around 170 square meters can be rented for about 1-2 million won
per month with a 20 million won deposit. Reasonably nice apartments fairly close to the
beach can be found for as little as 300 million won, but when it comes to prices, the sky's
the limit.
