can be purchased for as little as 150 million won in older developments but will cost five or
six times as much in newer or well-located ones.
The city itself is also a very nice place to live; it's connected to the Seoul subway system,
and there's excellent shopping and dining available at upmarket complexes like the AK
Plaza. The 42-hectare Central Park and tree-lined banks of the Tancheon, a stream that runs
through the heart of Bundang, offer an abundance of recreational opportunities. Small won-
der some Seoulites now take time out to visit Bundang rather than the other way around.
Bundang is similar to a typical North American suburb.
GOYANG 고고양
Much like Seongnam to the south, Goyang, a few kilometers northwest of Seoul, is an afflu-
ent bedroom community purpose-built for families working in the capital. And like Seong-
nam, it's been around for centuries but is now best-known for a single, prosperous, and very
new area in Goyang's case, Ilsan. This enclave, consisting of two districts in western Goy-
ang, is barely over a decade old but has already won over a large number of residents with
its state-of-the-art housing and meticulously planned public areas.
