Larger cities will usually also have a few “foreign” supermarkets catering to non-
Koreans with tempting displays of wine, spices, cheeses, and other goodies, but they're ex-
pensive and should never be frequented for everyday purchases. There are also a handful of
branches of U.S. wholesaler Costco in South Korea, and they are a good source of imported
food provided you're not adverse to coughing up the membership fee and buying in bulk.
Foreign residents will soon discover that independent retailers tend to congregate in cer-
tain areas that are basically wholly dedicated to specific products—Seoul, for example, has
