Foreign patients may also be surprised to find that hospitals here don't place great value
on privacy, peace, or quiet. Unless prior arrangements are made, patients usually share a
room with a few others, and doctors or nurses will sometimes administer care in full view of
whoever else happens to be there. Visitors and relatives are generally free to wander around
at will, a natural result of the belief that it's family members as well as hospital staff who
are responsible for watching over and attending to the patient. Those who are uncomfort-
able with this state of affairs would be better off visiting an international clinic.

INTERNATIONAL CLINICS
Several major hospitals in large cities such as Seoul, Busan, and Daegu have established
international clinics for foreign residents and visitors, and more are opening as the medical
tourism industry picks up. As local standards are already quite high, these don't necessarily
offer better medical care, but they do tend to have higher quality of service. Doctors and
nurses are usually fluent in English and in many cases Japanese or Chinese as well, and
