Travellers with disabilities
Disabled access in the Czech Republic has a long way to go, although attitudes are slowly
changingandsomelegislationhasbeenputinplace.Transportisamajorproblem.Busesand
old trams are inaccessible for wheelchairs, though the new metro stations have facilities for
people with disabilities, and the two train stations (Hlavní nádraží and nádraží Holešovice)
have self-operating lifts. Prague's cobbles and general lack of ramps also make life hard on
the streets.
For a list of wheelchair-friendly hotels, restaurants, metro stations and so forth, order the
guidebook Accessible Prague / Přístupná Praha from the Prague Wheelchair Association
(Pražská organizace vozíčkářů), Benediktská 6, Staré Město ( 224 827 210, pov.cz ). The
association can organize an airport pick-up if you contact it well in advance, and can help
with transporting wheelchairs.
