MARKETS, FOOD AND DRINK
Prague is surprisingly short of good markets ( trhy or tržiště ) of all types. For bread, butter,
cheese, wine and beer, you should simply go to the nearest potraviny or supermarket, al-
though these are still a long way from the superstores of the Western world. Christmas
markets have now been firmly re-established, and exist from late November onwards at
Wenceslas Square and the Old Town Square. Farmers' markets ( farmarske-trhy.cz ) pop
up each week at a different location, most conveniently on náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad and
Vítězné náměstí near Dejvická metro station.
