In-Depth Information
Prague 10 Beware of Prague 10, which extends right into the countryside; areas like
Strašnice and Vršovice in the southeast of the city are slightly closer to the centre of things
and served, in part, by the metro.
ESSENTIALS
Costs If you're looking for a double and can pay around 4000Kč a night, then you'll find
plenty of choice. At the other end of the scale, there are numerous hostels charging as little
as 400Kč for a bed in a dorm. Rates are at their very highest over public holidays such as
New Year, but drop by as much as a third in July and August, and sometimes by half in the
low season between November and February. You can, however, get some very good deals -
and undercut the often exorbitant rack rates - by booking online, and given that Prague can
be busy all year round, it's not a bad idea to book ahead in any case. All prices quoted in the
Guide are for the cheapest double room available in high season, which may mean without
private bath or shower in the less expensive places - again, these rates may be slashed if you
book online in advance. For hostels we have quoted the cheapest dorm bed in high season.
Facilities The vast majority of rooms in hotels and pensions have en-suite bathrooms and
TVs, with continental breakfast either included in the price or offered as an optional extra.
Most have free wi-fi, but few have a/c. Even budget hotels out in the suburbs will offer free
city maps and some sell public transport tickets.
Neighbourhoods With plenty of centrally located hotels, the only reason you might want to
stay out in the suburbs is if you're on a tight budget. The quietest central areas to stay in are
on the hilly left bank in Malá Strana and Hradčany, though there's more choice, and more
nightlife, in Staré Město and Nové Město.
