In-Depth Information
- Main and lateral discharges : the total simulation period; the irrigation
flows (inflow (
+
)) during each period of the simulation;
the discharge entering the main canal for each period together with the
lateral flows at the furthest upstream boundary of each canal section
and for each period; no seepage, operation or other losses are included
in the model;
- Sediment data : mean sediment concentration (ppm) and mean diameter
d 50 of the sediment particles entering the main canal; the sediment
predictor and the sediment inflow constant or in time series; SETRIC
computes the sediment concentration flowing to the secondary canals;
- Control sections : the control section at the downstream end of the main
canal and at each lateral has to be specified and they include the water
depth and the location of each control section. Control structures at the
boundaries between canal reaches are specified by the type of structure
(overflow, undershot, Crump weir, flume, siphon or AVIS gates); and
its main hydraulic characteristics (constant or time dependent). The
model computes the upstream and downstream water level at a control
section; the latter will act as a control level for the next reach;
- Canal bottom: the model assumes that the original canal bottom has a
hard layer; no erosion will take place below this original bottom level;
- Embankments: height of embankments or structures is not included in
the model; the hydraulic simulation will continue without overtopping
in a virtual infinite cross-section;
- Weed factors and other parameters: the weed factors are determined
by their growing period, periodic maintenance, maximum weed factor
and the weed effects at three growing stages; other parameters con-
cern the sediment division at off takes, minimum roughness height;
specific water and sediment properties and modelling parameters (time
and length step). (See Appendix F).

Output data
The computer program is able to present the results of the hydraulic
and sediment transport calculations in tables or graphs depending on the
selected option. Moreover, the results can be presented on screen, on paper
or saved in files. The program includes the following tables:
- hydraulic results : related to the water flow: the initial and final water
flow, including critical, normal and actual water depth, discharge, bed
width, bottom slope and de Chézy coefficient;
- concentrations : table for the initial and final sediment transport results
with the actual water depth and level, equilibrium concentration and
actual concentration, initial bed level and modified bed level and
deposition volume per length step for the entire canal.
The program contains the following figures for the main canal and
separately for the laterals:
- Initial water flow (actual, normal and critical depth and bottom level);
