In-Depth Information
automatic flow control in an irrigation scheme with either upstream,
downstream or volume control is based on the water level in the canal.
The head discharge relationship of the canal becomes very important for
a proper functioning of the automatic controls. In canals with sediment
problems, the head discharge relationship will be difficult to control.
The change may arise due to either deposition or erosion or to a change
in the roughness during canal operation. Hence, the sediment transport
aspect has to be properly analysed before deciding about the installation
of any canal automation.
