* Uniform Mapping Area based on topography, soils type and vegetation type.
A variety of monitoring methods may be employed: (1) vegetation monitoring by annual
paired photography, where photos of undisturbed areas are compared to rehabilitated
areas; girth measurements of trees and shrubs; counting stems per hectare and/or transect
species counts from ranked paired photos; (2) water monitoring ( in situ and laboratory
testing); or (3) erosion monitoring by rill counting and cross-section measurement. Actions
considered appropriate to rectify causes of unacceptable results should commence as soon
as possible after identii cation of the problem.
