COBALT
Cobalt is a hard, magnetic, silver-gray metal. It occurs in Vitamin B12, and is an
essential element for mammals. Exposure to high cobalt levels may adversely
effect heart and lung function. The main uses of cobalt are in the manufacture
of alloys of high strength and abrasion resistance. Cobalt compounds are widely
used in inks, paints and glazes, imparting deep blue and green colours. Most
cobalt is produced as a by-product from nickel or copper ores.
