On the east side of the square a small skateboard park attracts youngsters keen to perfect
their skills. The long, low functionalist building next door is the former bus station, protected
by a conservation order and so unable to be demolished, much to the ire of locals. However,
it does now function as a cool alfresco bar in warmer months, while just a few paces from
here,aglass-bottomed poolsitsaboveaseries ofstepped terraces leading downtoacafe/club
- the whole area has become one of the most popular places to gather on summer evenings,
as the crowds spill out across the square.
