With its magnificent Venetian-Moorish decorations, this might seem a strange
choice of location for Budapest's main showcase of Hungarian films. But it was in this
cinema, built in the 1890s as a dance hall, that the first Hungarian feature film was shot in
1901. While its programme is international, it places special emphasis on local films, and is
