can get authentic Thai food in Budapest, and at a very reasonable price. Delicious curries and
pad thai served up in a small restaurant across the road from the Szimpla bar. Another branch

which describes this strikingly decorated restaurant-cum-wine bar to a tee. Typical staples in-
clude pork tenderloin with sweet potato purée and roast Mangalica (a fatty Hungarian pork)
with gratin potatoes - while links with the Budapest Wine Society ensure a choice of top
Hungarian vintages, most of which are available by the glass. It's small, extremely popular
and does not take reservations. Mains 3000-5500Ft. Daily 11.30am-11pm.
Kőleves VII, Kazinczy utca 37-41, 1 322 1011, kolevesvendeglo.hu ; map . This relaxed
restaurant in the heart of the Jewish quarter is named “Stone Soup” in reference to the
fairytale about making soup in a time of scarcity. Instead you'll find classic Central European
Jewish dishes, as well as Hungarian specialities. There is a terrace at the back, and a garden
bar, Kőleveskert , next door for summer nights. They do breakfasts too. Booking advisable.
Mains 2000-3000Ft and a menu of the day 1000-1250Ft. Daily 8am-midnight.
Krizia VI, Mozsár utca 12 1 331 8711, ristorantekrizia.hu ; map . All the pasta at this
refined Italian restaurant is made here on the premises, as is the delicious prosciutto, result-
ing in a long list of well-thought-out creations like fettuccine with porcini mushrooms and
prawns or tortelloni stuffed with goose liver and truffle sauce. There's also a daily “From
the Market” menu, sourcing local ingredients, and a dedicated truffle menu, which, not sur-
prisingly, comes at a price. The three-course lunch menu is good value at 1500Ft. Mains
2800-6800Ft. Mon-Sat noon-3pm & 6.30pm-midnight.

justthespotforalow-keyevening dalliance. Thesmall menuchanges daily andcanthrowup
some surprises; rabbit kidneys, as well as the more enticing duck breast with wild mushroom
risotto, and shoulder of rabbit in garlic and thyme with ratatouille are what you can expect.

lively square merit much consideration - at least where food is concerned - but Menza is one
