In-Depth Information
DangMuoi VI, Nagymező utca 51 06 30 955 2548 vietnamietterem.hu ; map . Small and
very appealing Vietnamese bistro with a very authentic feel, created by Dang and Muoi, a
Vietnamese couple who met in Budapest. They work to their own recipes of Pho , the noodle
soup and national dish of their homeland. Soups from 1000Ft. Perfect place for the reviving
snack after a late-night drinking session. Mon-Thurs 10am-10pm, Fri- Sun 10am-midnight.
Fausto VII, Dohány utca 5 1 269 6806, fausto.hu ; map . Chef Fausto DiVora has un-
failingly maintained standards at his elegant Italian restaurant in Dohány utca for more than
twenty years. You can choose between the bistro-like osteria (lunch menus 2900Ft) on one
side - sample dish: turkey ossobuco with herbed mash - and the more formal restaurant
(three-course lunch menus for 5000Ft) on the other where you'll find a mean swordfish steak
with black spaghetti and pistachios (7500Ft). Mon-Sat noon-11pm.
Félix Hélix VII, Kazinczy u. 52/b 0630 416 6959, felixhelix.hu ; map . Located on
the walk between Kazinczy utca and Holló utca - but it is easy to miss this small eatery as it
doesn't shout about itself. That's partly the appeal of the place, squeezed in amid the brash
bars in the middle of Seventh District partyland. The Irish-Egyptian duo behind it turn out
a marvellous range of foods that you won't get anywhere else, such as cucumber soup with
goat's milk and Moroccan-style beef with couscous. There is occasional music, and you'll
find backgammon boards up in the gallery. Two-course lunch 900Ft. Mon-Fri 9am-3pm,
6pm-1am, Sat-Sun 3pm-1am.
Funky Pho VI, Mozsár utca 7 0670 251 2980, funkypho.hu ; map . Set up by András
and Éva after they worked out east and learnt from top chefs in Vietnam, Funky Pho is a
rarity in Budapest. Unlike most other places it serves up food from South Vietnam, as well
as other Asian cuisines. The menu is MSG-free (there is some in a jar on the counter if you
are hankering after it) and appeals to a younger Vietnamese generation. The Funky team have
won awards for their sustainability, and their food - try their pho and summer rolls - is deli-
cious, too. Mains from 1090Ft. Mon-Sat 11.30am-10pm.
II Terzo Cerchio VII, Dohány utca 40 1 354 0788, ilterzocerchio.hu ; map . The Third
Circle of Dante's hell was full of gluttons, and this handsome Florentine-run pizzeria has its
share. Pizzas aside (from 2000Ft), there's superb risotto (3450Ft) and pasta, where seafood
is a speciality - try the pennette with a spicy octopus sauce (2900Ft) or gnocchi with sal-
mon with rocket pesto (2850Ft). It's popular with Italian visitors, which must be a good sign.
Daily noon-11.30pm.
Kazimir VII, Kazinczy utca 34 1 798 5747, kazimir.hu ; map . Popular large café-bar
in the middle of the Seventh district that is welcoming throughout the day. They serve very
good breakfasts - omelettes start at 1090Ft - and have a two-course lunch menu for 1090Ft.
Specialities include duck leg (2890Ft) and the popular Jewish dish sólet (2590Ft). There is a
courtyard terrace, and live music on Friday evenings. Daily 8am-4am.
