same name, the nineteen elegant Gerlóczy rooms all lead off a spiral staircase topped by a
coloured glass skylight. The rooms are colour themed according to floor (grey, blue, red and
yellow-green from the bottom upwards), though all have similar fixtures and fittings - high
doors and ceilings, parquet flooring and gorgeous, brass-fitted bathrooms, some with claw-
foot tubs, some with showers only. Two rooms have small balconies looking out over the
square (€110). Free minibar. One of the best value-f or- money places in the city, especially if
you can nab one of the slightly cheaper attic rooms. €95

rooms. Luxurious to a fault, the rooms are fitted with handsome beige and black Art Deco

stone's throw from the Elizabeth Bridge, this sparkling fashion hotel oozes sophistication,
from the smart lobby to the plush rooms decorated in fetching turquoise and chocolate brown
colours. The cool factor extends to the overs ized wall mirrors embedded with TVs, and de-
signer bathrooms with walk-in showers. €140

ally built for the Adria insurance company at the turn of the twentieth century, this building
housed the police headquarters in the Communist years until it was totally gutted and re-
opened as a luxury hotel. It's magnificently furnished throughout, with a pronounced French
influence manifest in g rand sofas, big chests and wall-length mirrors, and beautifully tiled
marble bathrooms. €400

owned place on a quiet backstreet in central Pest, whose 25 rooms (including six singles and
two apartments) are spacious, light-filled and come with TV, radio and writing tables - the
last provided to meet the needs of visiting academics. €90

hotel off the bottom of Váci utca, close to the Main Market Hall. Although by no means
large, the rooms are impressive, with smart, dark furniture set against hardwood flooring and
light, des ign-p apered walls. Double and twin-bedded rooms in equal measure, and all with
