Volcán Lodge 100m up the road directly opposite the bakery 771 4709, volcan-
lodge.webs.com . Lovingly restored 1940s lodge full of wooden beams, panelling and floor-
ing creating homely rooms and a warm atmosphere. For an extra $5 a cooked breakfast is
included. The friendl y Pa namanian owners are bilingual (Spanish/English) after living for

Burrico's Av Central, next to Hotel Don Tavo 6203 7363, burricos.net . Bright tables
and cheery Mexican decorations make this an inviting place, even before you start on the
food: a mix of Panamanian - superior menu del día with a choice of beef, chicken and pork
for under $5 - and Tex-Mex faves for under $8. Tues-Sun 9am-9.30pm.
Cerro Brujo Gourmet Restaurant Brisas del Norte 500m up a dirt road signed off to
the right from Av Central 6669 9196, cerrobrujogourmet@gmail.com . The delightful,
Mediterranean-style stone and tile interior is decked out with artwork and overlooks a garden.
An eclectic changing menu of gourmet dishes (mains $13-16) such as dorado fillet coated in
sesame seeds and mushrooms does not disappoint; leave room for dessert. Regular musical
or artistic evenings. Reservations preferred. Tues-Sun noon-3pm & 5-9pm.
La Maná At Volcán Lodge 771 4709, volcanlodge.webs.com/restaurantemana-
menu.htm . Mix of Panamanian cuisine and US comfort food, spanning the price spectrum:
choose from gallo pinto ($5), BLTs or burgers, to filet mignon in red wine ($13). All served
in a warm wood-panelled dining room by hospitable hosts. Daily 11am-8pm.
Restaurante Mary Av Central on the left 6704 1237. Popular local restaurant on a breezy
upstairs terrace (with inside a/c seating) serving moderately priced chicken, pork and seafood
($6-8), though try the local trout ($9), plus tasty soups and fresh juices. Daily 6am-6pm.

A few kilometres west of Volcán lie several modest attractions - a couple of lakes , a coffee
estate and an archeological site - which will appeal to enthusiasts or may be worth swinging
