By local minibus During the day, occasional blue minibuses circulate the village and will
drop you off wherever you want, while half-hourly yellow school buses shuttle back and forth
from Capirita, at the eastern end of the village, to La Pintada to the west. Minibuses also head
up the mountain to La Mesa (every 30min 7am-4pm), the access point for Cerro Gaital.

Tourist information There's a small tourist kiosk (daily 8.30am-4.30pm; 983 6474) next
to the market, which may have a map, although the owners of ArtesanĂ­as Don Pepe, below
Hotel Don Pepe , or the adjacent David's Place sell better maps of the area and are also excel-
lent sources of local information. A couple of town websites are kept relatively up to date:
el-valle-panama.com and antonvalley.com .
ANAM office The ANAM office (Mon-Fri 8.30am-3.30pm) is signposted to the right off
Av Central on the way into town.
ACTIVITIES AND GUIDES
Birdwatching Enthusiastic birdwatchers can join one of the tours offered by the Canopy
Lodge from $75/person.
Panama Explorers Club Crater Valley Resort, C Ranita de Oro and C Caiprita, at the eastern
end of town 983 6942, pexclub.com . Organizes a range of outdoor activities in the area,
including abseiling (rappelling), kayaking, mountain biking and hiking.
Stables (no name) C El Hato, just before Hotel Campestre 6646 5813. This long-estab-
lished stable offers horseriding ($12/hr); it's worth paying a few extra dollars for a guide
(Spanish-speaking) to accompany you. A popular route, lasting around 4hr, takes you round
Cerro Gaital: $48/person (for 1-2 people; cheaper rates for larger groups) including guide.
