London do a fair job of persuading you you're in England's capital. There's even English
beer and cider on tap and some pricey fish 'n' chips on the menu. The pool tables are occu-
pied by British expats and young Panamanian males. Mon-Sat from 5pm.

Brasserie-bar popular with young expat and middle-class Panamanians, serving beer, cock-
tails and food. The home-brewed beer and the trendy location attract crowds that spill out
onto the street. Its sibling bar in Casco Viejo (Av Eloy Alfaro at C 11;
212 2680) is equally
popular. Daily noon-late.
S6is C Uruguay between C 48 and C 49 264 5237; map . A mainstay of the party scene,
popular with various age groups, this small cocktail lounge with DJ can get packed at week-
ends. It's pronounced “seis”. Thurs-Sat 8pm-4am.
The Wine Bar C Eusebio A. Morales in ApartHotel Las Vegas 265 4701; map . Long-
standing favourite that provides a convivial setting amid faux vines, bottles galore and murals
of rustic scenes, marred only by the over-vigorous a/c. Choose from over two hundred
bottles,or just enjoy a glass while chilling to mellow live music (Mon-Fri after 9pm; Sat &
Sun after 7.30pm). The food is secondary (and ordinary) but you can also order off the menu
of the adjacent Caffé Pomodoro . Daily 5pm-late.

most central gay venue with resident DJs and occasional events; electronica presides on
Saturdays. Open bar until midnight. Cover charge $7-10. Fri and Sat 10pm-3am.
Icon Club Av Juan Pablo II at Tumba Muerto 6230 0378, facebook.com/pages/icon-
club-panama ; map . Currently the biggest gay club, featuring laser lights, foam parties, dan-
cing boys and drag acts. Cover charge for events (up to $10). Thurs-Sun 9pm-3am.
Zona de la Rumba Amador Causeway, before Centro de Convenciones Figali; map . A con-
stantly revolving strip mall of discos, bars and restaurants to suit every mood, from house to
hip-hop, salsa to rock; you'll either love it or loathe it. Tues-Sat 9pm until late.
CINEMAS
There are several cinemas in the capital - mostly multiplexes in shopping malls showcasing
the latest Hollywood offerings, generally in English with subtitles ( subtitulada ; see
cinespanama.com ) , though less mainstream fare can sometimes be found at Cinépolis.
