Loblolly Bay
Any trip to Anegada has to include a
visit to the fantastic beach and reef at
Loblolly Bay. If you're taking a day trip
from Tortola, make sure you call To ny 's
Taxis ( &   284/495-8027 ) ahead of
time; Tony Smith will take you across
the island to the bay, with one quick
stop to see the legendary pink flamin-
gos en route. Once you pull up at Lob-
lolly Bay, stake out a place on the
beach and enjoy some of the most
spectacular snorkeling in the B.V.I.
Break for lunch at Big Bamboo, and
have a drink at the small thatched-
roof bar where scrawled signatures
on the bar and roof supports are
from Cindy Crawford, Brooke Shields,
and Andre Agassi (the bartender
swears they're real).
life here is the rock iguana, a fierce-looking but quite harmless reptile that can grow
to a length of 2m (6 1 2 ft.). Although rarely seen, these creatures have called Anegada
home for thousands of years.
Slowly, ever so slowly, the modern world is coming to Anegada. The government
has paved the main road here and installed a fire department and even a little library.

coming here.
Where to Stay
Guests who stay on this remote island are basically hiding out. The accommodations
below are bare-bones, but great for those seeking tranquillity.
Anegada Beach Campground Despite its isolated setting on one of the least
developed islands in the B.V.I., this property boasts excellent amenities. It lies near
