people, with more than 185 sq. m (1,991 sq. ft.) of living space. Sometimes six cou-
ples or one or even two families share the villa like a first-class commune. It is also
possible to rent just one of the suites or the master bedroom. The villa lies just above
a panoramic sweep of Mahoe Bay and its beach. This luxury vacation spot has an
infinity pool, four suites, and one master bedroom, which is secluded and set apart
from the rest of the villa. The main structure of the villa is shaped like a pyramid,
rising three floors. All the beds are made of handcrafted teak, and are furnished with
a king-size, anti-allergic mattress. A steel ladder leads to the tallest point of the villa,
a “Crow's Nest” at the top of the pyramid on the third level.

Rosewood Little Dix Bay This palace of low-key luxury is scattered
along a .8km ( 1 2 -mile) crescent-shaped, white-sand beach and private bay, on a
200-hectare (494-acre) preserve. Many guests find this resort too pricey and stuffy;
we ourselves prefer the more casual elegance of Biras Creek Resort and the Bitter
End Yacht Club, though Little Dix Bay does have an undeniably lovely setting, fine
service, and an unmistakable elegance.
All rooms are surrounded by forest, and boast private terraces with views of the sea
or gardens. Trade winds come through louvers and screens, and units also have ceil-
ing fans and air-conditioning. Some units are two-story rondavels (think Tiki huts)
raised on stilts to form their own breezeways. The furnishings and fabrics evoke
Southeast Asia—beautiful wicker or reed furniture, bamboo beds, Balinese boxes and
baskets, and ceramic objets d'art. The hotel has added two villas on an isolated stretch
of white beach, each with dazzling white interiors, private pools, and alfresco dining
pavilions.
