In-Depth Information
Outside of the occasional visits, the island slumbers in the past, with no roads and no
electricity.
The midsize units come with a bedroom, living room, and kitchen, plus a balcony
and bathroom with a shower that is practically outdoors. Everything in the rooms is
run on rechargeable batteries. Lighting and ceiling fans are powered by 12-volt DC,
and there is one 110-volt outlet in each room which can be used to recharge batteries
for razors. A cistern under each room stores fresh rainwater, which is heated by solar
power. All toilets are flushed with seawater. The on-site Sail Caribbean Divers offers
snorkeling, kayaks, dinghy rentals, and full scuba services.

Heritage Inn Balmy trade winds from the Caribbean blow across this .8 hect-
ares (2 acres) of landscaped property where the owners “guarantee” 350 magnificent
sunsets a year. On the northern coast nothing beats the views as witnessed from this
tiny hotel, perched on top of Windy Hill. You can spot no fewer than three lovely bays,
including Carrot, Apple, and Long bays, and about a dozen islands and cays, includ-
ing Jost Van Dyke, Great Tobago,
Green Cay, and even St. Thomas and
St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Bedrooms are attractively and com-
fortably furnished in a tropical motif,
consisting of three two-bedroom suites
and six one-bedroom suites, complete
with a living room. Each one of the
units also has a full kitchen, which
helps take pressure off the fact that
there is little within walking distance
of the hotel and that the on-site restaurant is closed on Mondays. Beaches and swim-
ming are only a few minutes by car down the hill. The Bananakeet Café serves a
Caribbean fusion cuisine, each dish prepared to order.

Lambert Beach Resort Ask for a packed lunch and set out to explore the
small bays and coves in the vicinity of this resort—and the day is yours. Surfing,
boogie boarding, kayaking—it's all available to you. If you don't want something so
active, you can always set out with a fishing rod. On the remote northeastern section
of the island, this is the place for escapists who want isolation. In an amphitheater
sloping to the water, the resort opens onto a .8km ( 1 2 -mile) beach of white sand set
against a backdrop of palm trees. To reach the resort, you'll need to rent a car or take
a taxi; it's about a 15-minute car ride from Road Town. Once here, you'll find some
of the B.V.I.'s best white-sand cove beaches, along with a large swimming pool. Play-
ground facilities for children make this a family favorite.
The cottage cluster is designed in the Mediterranean style, with accommodations
spread across eight one-floor structures. The preferred rooms open onto the beach,

Question: Where are the British Virgin
Islands?
Answer: I have no idea, but I should
think that they are as far as possible
from the Isle of Man.
