Colony Cove This all-suite beachfront resort lies west of Christiansted on
the same beach as Club St. Croix (see above). Of all the condo complexes on St.
Croix, Colony Cove is the most like a full-fledged hotel, with a relatively large staff
on hand. There's even an on-site watersports desk that can arrange all manner of daily
tours and activities. Each apartment has a washer and dryer (rare for St. Croix), an
especially modern kitchen with microwave, an enclosed veranda or gallery, two air-
conditioned bedrooms, and a pair of full bathrooms. All have a light, airy, tropical feel.
The four three-story buildings ring a swimming pool next to a palm-shaded beach.

Sugar Beach Set on 7 acres of lush landscaping, this miniresort opens onto a
500-foot premier beachfront. Just 1.45 miles from Christiansted, it features a pool
adjacent to a historic 18th-century Danish sugar mill. This row of modernized studios
and one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments is strung along 500 feet of sandy
beach on the north coast off North Shore Road. The apartments, with enclosed bal-
conies, are staggered to provide privacy. Of course, all open toward the sea. Each unit

Villa Madeleine For the ultimate hideaway retreat, book one of the two-
story villas at this condo complex, constructed around a West Indian plantation great
house in a setting of lush tropical planting. This was once a posh hotel, but has been
turned into a series of well-furnished condos by the property owners. These villas
stand on 6 1 ⁄ 2 acres of landscaped property opening onto Teague Bay, 8 miles east of
Christiansted. The units in general contain free-standing villas with one or two bed-
rooms; most have pink marble showers, and many of the rentals are adorned with
West Indian four-poster beds. Each of the accommodations contains a full kitchen
with a living and dining area. Some of the villas have private pools, and most of the
rentals are suitable for two couples or else a family with children.
