History
Cathédrale de Notre Dame de Paris
BARBARA VAN ZANTEN

everything from ancient artworks to Gothic cathedrals and regal
châteaux, France often feels like one long history textbook. Even the tini-

turbulent past. Encompassing everything from courtly intrigue to intellec-
tual enlightenment, artistic endeavour and bloody revolution, one thing's
for sure - French history certainly isn't dull.
