Bayeux Tapestry
Stretching for an astonishing 68.3m, this monumental piece of embroidery ( Click
here ) is one of France's most-treasured historical artefacts. Recounting William the
Conqueror's invasion of England in 1066, the tapestry is thought to have been com-
missioned as a commemorative work by William's half-brother, Bishop Odo of
Bayeux.
